Day 5: Canaan Service Day

For our first service day, we went to Al Jalamah which is located near Jenin in the bountiful bread basket of Palestine, Marj Iben Amer. We ate a traditional breakfast of olives, cucumbers, tomatoes, goat cheese and taboon bread to get ready for a full day of service.

We broke up into groups where some went to harvest some cucumbers and tomatoes, and others picked clovers from the ground, and the biggest groups transported a local organic grain into trucks after it was left out in the sun to dry . This was a very extraordinary day where we saw what farmers go through to tend the land. Upon completing our service day, we had a nice hearty lunch of Maftoul (Palestinian pearled Couscous) with chicken.

We then took a tour of the Canaan Facility and saw where olives are turned into olive oil during the harvest season. We finally stopped at the Burqin Church-Church of the Ten Lepers where Jeses is said to pass by this village and miraculously healed ten lepers.
