Day 7: Aqabah Service Day

For our next service day we went to the village of Aqabah in the Toubas Governate. The village is in Area C with the majority of buildings and homes under threat of demolition. Furthermore, the Israeli military uses the surrounding lands for live bullet trainings, and the area is also littered with land mines. The mayor Haj Sami met us and gave us background information of their village. He is paralyzed from the waist down due to the mines in the village. The campers helped clean the playground and painted the curbsides. We were lucky enough to have the local students sing us songs they have learned. Before arriving back on campus we stopped for some well deserved kanafeh!
