☀️ Day 2️⃣: Film Lab
We are on to Day 2! What an amazing group of campers we have this year. This morning campers began with some fun games on campus as well as community building activities. Afterwards, we finally introduced in detail our project for the summer! In partnership with FilmLab Palestine, a local cinema nonprofit, Go Palestine campers will spend the next 3 weeks working on producing a short film 🎬 based on the different themes our camp will focus on. As a result, we have dedicated this first week as well as many of the on-campus sessions over the next 2 weeks for workshops on the creative and technical components of film making 📽. The goal is that the campers will produce a number of short films over the next 3 weeks and screen the rough cuts on the final day of camp. Today's workshops included an introduction of the project, a workshop on the technical components of film making, and an afternoon brainstorming workshop that tackled the creative side of the movie. The goal of the project is to empower our campers with the skills necessary to share what they learn about Palestine over the next 3 weeks using the most powerful media channels- cinema and video. Lunch today was delicious pastries of cheese, zaatar, meat pies (sfeeha/سفيحة), spinach pies, and mini pizzas, catered by Ina’sh Al Usra (انعاش الاسرى) a Women’s co-op based in El-Bireh. We concluded our day with a walk to the Ramallah Municipal Theater at City Hall and watched a recently resurfaced documentary called “Resistance: Why?” about the future Palestinian revolutionaries in Lebanon were envisioning for a free Palestine featuring extensive interviews with Nabil Shaath and Ghasan Kanafani.
