☀️Day 1️⃣1️⃣: Yasser Arafat Museum + Snowball
This day was mostly a relaxing day. Campers gathered on campus as usual and funneled into the library for a staff-led session on modern Palestinian history 📚 which included a discussion of the Naksa, the First Intifada, the role women played in the First Intifada, concluding the session at the Oslo Accords era. This session was a good preface to the next segment of this day- a trek to the Yasser Arafat Museum. The museum, which includes a mausoleum where the late leader’s body is interned until his wishes to be buried in a liberated Jerusalem are achieved. The museum showcases important symbols, art, artifacts and stages of the Palestinian revolution through the perspective of Yasser Arafat and others of the PLO concluding in his actual bunker from the Second Intifada. The tone of the day quickly lightened afterwards as we had a relaxing afternoon planned at a beloved local venue called Snowbar . Campers got to enjoy the cool water, pizza 🍕, and each other’s company for the remainder of the afternoon. We concluded the day early in preparation for the next day as we had to wake up at 2:00 AM to descend to the Jordan Valley on a hike to see the sunrise over the Dead Sea 🌅.
